Sale Sharks demolished Ampthill 64-0 in Pool B in the Premiership Rugby Cup, while Bristol Bears defeated Cambridge 98-14, ahead of the start of the 2023/24 Premiership season. Elsewhere in the tournament, there was a convincing victory on Friday night for Cornish Pirates against London Scottish as they won 50-14 ahead of the new Championship season.

Highlights: France crush Italy to qualify as pool winners

Sale and Bristol both enjoyed heavy wins in their last Premiership Rugby Cup pool matches.
Sale Sharks completed a 64-0 rout over Ampthill to move into second spot in Pool B, with Sam Dugdale contributing four tries.
Sale had no hopes of reaching the next stage of the competition but nonetheless enjoyed a one-sided victory, with Sam James scoring in the first two minutes, before Dugdale was able to grab a hat-trick in just over 20 minutes.
Tommy Taylor and Sam Bedlow both scored to leave the Bears in 38-0 up at half-time. After the restart Dudgale had his fourth, and another three tries were added alongside his effort in the last 20 minutes.
They start their Premiership campaign against Northampton next Sunday, looking to go one better than their runners-up finish last season.
In Pool D, there were four tries each for Daniel Thomas, with hat-tricks for both Harry Thacker and Gabriel Ibitoye as Bristol defeated Cambridge 98-14, as they moved into second spot as well.
Bristol will take on Leicester in the Premiership on Friday at Ashton Gate, and the scale of the task will be much tougher, but their third consecutive victory will provide a welcome confidence boost nonetheless.
Rich Lane, Magnus Bradbury and Josh Caulfield touched down for Bristol as they claimed a bonus point after just 16 minutes of devastating attacking.
On 24 minutes, both Benji Hoppe and Kieran Frost were in the sin bin for Cambridge and Bristol continued to press home their advantage, and there were nine second-half tries to extend the lead.
Elsewhere Cornish Pirates defeated Championship rivals London Scottish 50-14.
The Pirates play the Exiles in Penzance in two weeks in their Championship season-opener.
