Manchester United were given a scare by Newport, tossing a two-goal lead for the third time this season. But goals from Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony and Rasmus Hpjlund earned United a fifth-round tie at either Nottingham Forest or Bristol City, in a terrifically exciting encounter.

United began well and went in front on seven minutes, Fernandes drilling home at the end of a fine move. And they soon doubled their advantage, Mainoo seeping home his first goal in senior football, and with just 13 minutes gone, the tie looked over. But United were wasteful thereafter and on 36 minutes. Bryn Morris clobbered home a tremendous livener, the ball taking a slight deflection off Lisandro Martinez on its way in, then two minutes into the second half, Will Evans stole a march on Raphael Varane and equalised to send Rodney parade into raptures.

But United composed and eventually forged back in front when Antony scored for the first time since Good was a lad, and Hojlund ended the game four minutes into injury-time but five minutes from full time, doing well to battle his way through before finishing smartly. ÿÿÿÿÿ

United played some lovely stuff and their traditional collapse came thanks to two terrific Newport goals. So the result was in the balance for a while, but in the end United had too much.

And Evans curls a fine effor,t but Bayindir turns it over easily enough, as it's straight down his throat.

GOAL! Newport County 2-4 Manchester United (Hojlund) Fernandes finds McTominay, who plays a good pass forward to Garnacho. He slides in Forson the keeper smothers his error, and Hojlund kicks through a challenge and pokes home well. That's a good striker's goal, and game over.

Maguir, drawn out wide, charges into a challenge that isn't there, and out of nothing, Newport win a corner. But when the cross comes in, Bayindir collects the ensuing header easily enough.

Evans piksk up a loose ball, and creams a left-footer from distance that flies about a yard wide. Bayindir knew it wasn't on target, but it was a decent effort. He's advanced his reputation today.

Is Bruno Fernandes. I can't argue with that, he's played well - as he should, but also as he does.

And his delivery is decent, but United get it away.
