INTER MILAN v SALERNITANA live: Updates as hosts look to extend lead at top of Serie A

Inter Milan’s apparent procession towards the Serie A title continued as they thrashed bottom of the table Salernitana 4-0 in Fabio Liverani’s first game in charge of the visitors.

The hosts made an electric start, creating chance after chance as Marcus Thuram and Nicolo Barella both hit the woodwork within the opening seven minutes.

It was only a matter of time before they took the lead, which they duly did when Thuram stroked home from inside the area, two minutes before Lautaro Martinez made it 2-0 with a thumping effort from distance.

Denzel Dumfries added a third before the break, benefiting from Guillermo Ochoa spilling the ball at his feet, while Salernitana did not register a shot at the other end until the 58th minute.

With such a dominant advantage, Inter took their foot off the gas a little after the break, although Hakan Calhanoglu still forced a magnificent save out of the goalkeeper with a thunderbolt from range that was fumbled round the post.

The fourth eventually came in the final minute when Marko Arnautovic, who had earlier had a goal ruled out for offside, converted from Dumfries’ cross.

Inter Milan are now ten points clear of nearest challengers Juventus in their quest for a first title since 2020/21.

As for Salernitana, they sit bottom of Serie A and seven points from safety, despite having played at least one game more than all the teams immediately above them

And that will be the final act of the game! The referee shows pity to the visitors and does not add any injury time. Inter comprehensively win, Salernitana suffer another heavy loss

And there is the fourth, at long, long last!

Dumfries gets down the right and fires a dangerous low ball in towards the six yard box, from where Arnautovic converts

They have taken their foot off the gas a touch in this second half, but that is not to say Inter have settle for 3-0. Dumfries gets forward again and sends a cross in towards the penalty spot, only for the defence to scramble clear

What a strike that would have been from the French international! The ball falls to Benjamin Pavard in the box, but with his back to goal, he attempts an overhead kick that goes just over the bar.

Even if it had gone in, it wouldn't have counted, as Arnautovic was offside earlier in the move

The visitors bring off Loum Tchaouna and Alessandro Zanoli, with Simy and Kastanos coming on

Substitute Arnautovic thinks he's ended the long wait for a fourth, but the former West Ham man made his move just a little bit too soon as he burst onto a through ball, with the flag raised shortly after the ball had been curled past the goalkeeper

Bastoni, who has been brilliant, is off. He's replaced by debutant Tajon Buchanan, making his first appearance after a January move from Club Brugge

The forward, who has not scored a Serie A goal since rejoining Inter, curls off target with a 25-yard free-kick

The forward gets the first yellow card of the night for a late and poor tackle on Asllani, standing on the substitute's boot
