Juve again look vulnerable as Roma push forward, however, and this time their last-gasp defending isn't there to cover for them - only a mis-communication between Maicon and Pjanic sees the team-mates get in each other's way and ruin chances of getting onto Strootman's cut-back.

Tevez almost makes another goal on the counter from that, but De Sanctis is out quick to smother the ball.

Roma push numbers forward in search of a quick response but good Juve defending leaves them relying on a tame Pjanic shot from 25, easily held by Buffon.

Against the run of play but a lovely goal and a sign of that championship character that Juve have. Didn't let Roma's good start affect them at all and now lead their biggest rivals in the table.

GOOOAAAAL! Juventus lead with their first attack! It's Tevez indeed with that spark, taking the ball from the short throw and dribbling into the box. De Rossi keeps backing off and the Argentine deftly slips it through to a just-onside Vidal tucks in the opener from close range. 1-0!

Tevez wins an attacking throw off Dodo as he finally tries to get some attacking spark going for the hosts.

Totti has the same luck as Gervinho trying to beat the offside trap.

Pjanic sends a shot harmlessly wide from a Totti assist. Was about 22 yards out and wasn't the best position to have a go, really.

Juventus are really being bossed in general possession thus far after that scrappy first few minutes. Pirlo has hardly has a sniff and has lost the ball twice when he has.

Roma try and go long on the break for once, and it almost works - Gervinho is offside by a whisker.

Juve clear their lines from the corner. Roma starting to enjoy some good possession now.

Now Roma burst forward in numbers and Totti has the run of the right-hand side of the Juve box, eventually having his cut-back from the byline closed down by Buffon and flicked behind for a corner, the first of the game.

Nothing from the short-played set piece and Juve snatch possession and break through Tevez, who wins a free-kick of his own in the centre-circle off Strootman.

Totti wins Roma a free-kick within range and quite central, going down quite easily from clumsy pressure by Chiellini.

We're quickly into a calmer flow from both sides as Vidal is felled by Strootman on the right.

Pirlo begins his first Juve game in around a month by giving the ball away with his first attempt to distribute. Gervinho bombs forward but is unable to pick out Pjanic when he is swarmed by defenders.

The home side get this big fixture underway!

Roma could really do with the win here, five points behind the leaders and title holders Juve. A draw, one would imagine, is a perfectly acceptable result for the Old Lady against their biggest rivals so far this season even if all three points would of course be preferable and put them eight clear of the rest of the table.
