Liverpool get the action off and running. Pitch looks like a bowling green.

Players out on the pitch. Glorious day for football. A minute's silence for the Fallen. Well observed. Almost ready to go here.

Brendan Rodgers on Liverpool's shyness in front of goal: "It is up to myself to find the solution. The players who are available are working very hard, and we are still learning about each other. I think this is something that sometimes is missed – you get new players in and with not as much preparation time, you are learning about them in the games. But I can see each day relationships growing between the players and the connection in the team. Whenever you have players out it makes it a bit more difficult, but you need to find the solutions in different ways and that is what we have been trying to do."

Alan Pardew: "When you pay a lot of money for players, the CV and the reputation and what they have done goes before them, to a degree, [Remy] Cabella and Moussa [Sissoko] when he came, Mapou [Yanga-Mbiwa] to a degree. But it's difficult to come from international football. Sometimes there's an adjustment, and sometimes it works straight away, like [Yohan] Cabaye did. I think Cabella is going to take a little bit of time, so therefore it is nice to have the option of one or two of those younger players because in my mind, I put the CVs in the drawer and I then now go out on to the training pitch and treat everybody the same - otherwise I shouldn't be in this job - and I try to do that."
