Gus Poyet on his decision to drop Mannone: "It was a very difficult decision. There are many, many reasons. One is Vito himself. It is not nice when you are in goal and having that bad luck at the moment... Then, you have to think of the team. Also, Costel came to the club with the idea of playing and has waited for his chance... It was very difficult. I really like Vito. He has done terrifically for us, but when you have a bad run like that when you are in goal, you pay the price."

Neil Warnock: "Every team has got a chance in every game, as we saw in midweek with Newcastle's fantastic (Capital One Cup) win at Man City. It is the closest Premier League for many years, apart from the top two and now you are saying 'is it the top two or the top one?'"

MANNONE DROPPED: Four changes for Sunderland with goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon making his first PL start for the Black Cats in place of the out of sorts Vito Mannone. There is also a debut for Anthony Reveilleire who takes Wes Brown's spot at the heart of the defence. Connor Wickham and Jordi Gomez start at the expense of Adam Johnson and Jack Rodwell. As for Palace, they make one change from the 2-2 draw with WBA as Scott Dann returns from injury. Adrian Mariappa drops to the bench.
