Defoe having just been called offside is very late on Reid and he picks up the yellow. Possible bit of frustration there from the forward.

It is a very quiet White Hart Lane as West Ham have throttled the life out of the game.

Jarvis for Maiga, who doesn’t go straight down the tunnel so that looks a tactical one and not an injury.

Allardyce looks to be preparing a change. Jarvis is getting ready to come on it appears.

Yellow card for Noble but Spurs waste the free-kick with Vertonghen’s cross far too deep to cause any problems.

The Hammers have their first decent spell of possession with Carroll linking things well. Nolan finds Maiga but his cross is blocked. Spurs break with Lennon but Noble slides through the side of the little man.

West Ham are so deep and Spurs look bereft of ideas.

Diame hauls back Sandro – that’s his third foul and he needs to be careful. Over the kick, Huddlestone looks to lift it behind O'Brien for Vertonghen but it goes out on the full.

Bale delivers the corner and Dawson rises to meet it but a West Ham head clears. O’Neil looks to lead a break but Walker, who has been superb thus far, steals the ball and Spurs come again.

Spurs retain the ball well before Bale ups the tempo, beats two men and looks to dig out a cross. McCartney blocks but has picked up an injury in the process.

West Ham have some respite in the shape of a free-kick just inside the Tottenham half – it is lofted into the box and Carroll rises well but his header loops wide. Incredibly, the big frontman has yet to score or assist since his summer move.

West Ham are giving the ball away very cheaply thus far.

Bale slips the ball to Dempsey but the American takes a fraction too long to steady himself and under pressure his shot never threatens the goal of Jaaskelainen.

Nolan breaks the offside trap but his deep cross is cleared by Walker.

Bale leads another break but his cross is cut out for a throw.

What an effort. Bale receives the ball with his back to goal in midfield, turns his man and, just as it looks like he has overrun it, he unleashes a hellish shot from 25 yards that clatters the underside of the bar with Jaaskelainen beaten.

West Ham happy to sit deep here and hit the home side on the break – you wonder how that Europa League excursion will impact on the hosts intensity as the game progresses.

A very good start from Spurs here. Defoe looking particularly bright.

Bale whips the free-kick in from 30 yards out on the left but West Ham clear. Huddlestone volleys the clearance handsomely wide from 25 yards.

O'Brien scythes down Bale on the turn and he is in the book – will be interesting to see how he deals with the threat of Bale now. Yellow card inside ten minutes.

Vertonghen combines with Bale before whipping a ball in at Defoe. Reid is there and hacks away. Sandro intercepts as West Ham attempt to break before slipping a ball in behind for Defoe at a tightish angle. Defoe looks to lift it over Jaaskelainen but can’t get enough on it.
