Jonathan Walters has started each of Stoke’s last 72 Premier League games, the longest current run of any outfield player in the league.

Adkins' side have been given the fewest cards in the Premier League this season (15 yellows and no reds), with none in their last four matches.

Their last Premier League away clean sheet came at West Brom in a goalless draw on 22 February 2005.

They are yet to keep an away clean sheet in the league this season, however, conceding 21 goals in eight matches on the road.

“You have to have a positive mindset about everything that you do, and we are going out with the ambition of getting three points to win a game away from home. We have done it before and we can do it again,” he said.

Southampton are one place above the relegation places with 16 points from 18 games, and manager Nigel Adkins accepts that Stoke is a difficult place to get a result...

Southampton captain Adam Lallana again misses out with the knee problem he sustained against Reading on December 8. Steven Davis and Gaston Ramirez drop to the bench, with Guly Do Prado and Jay Rodriguez coming in, while Jos Hooiveld replaces Nathan Clyde at the back.

Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross and right-back Geoff Cameron are both serving one-match bans for five bookings this season, so Matthew Upson replaces Shawcross in the centre of the back four with Ryan Shotton coming in for Cameron.

No team has conceded fewer goals, with nine clean sheets from those 19 games. It means that Stoke have the fifth best defence in Europe’s top five leagues this season

Stoke are nine matches unbeaten going into the game, in eighth place in the Premier League with 28 points from 19 games.

This will be the first top-flight game between the clubs since 1985, but Southampton have won four of the six meetings in the Championship.
