Iffy goalkeeping from Szczesny, who comes for an aerial ball in the box and misses, but the ball drops kindly for Arsenal and the errant Pole can return to his goal.

Kieran Gibbs > Gael Clichy. McManaman sprints at Gibbs, who stays with him and rather disdainfully wins the ball and leaves his adversary in a heap.

McManaman buys a throw off Gibbs well forward down the Wigan right... in towards Kone at the edge of the box but he is hassled off the ball.

Espinoza has acres of space to deliver from the left, but he dawdles interminably and Walcott nicks the ball off him to tremendous applause.

Kone chases back into his own half but rather clumsily brings Arteta down. All Arsenal so far.

Great interception from Ramsey who spreads the ball right and continues his run into the box. The cross is met by a defender.

Podolski meets a right-sided cross with a header that loops high over the bar.

Wigan are all at sea here at Walcott drives a shot against the legs of a defender... they're clinging on here.

Arsenal win a throw-in well forward on their left... Sagna drives in a shot but nearly drags it into the path of Gibbs who slides for the ball but cannot make contact!

Poor pass from McArthur who had time and space but couldn't find McManaman on the right...

Alcaraz brings the ball out from the back and tries to find Espinoza wide out on the left... he overcooks the pass and sends it out for a throw.

The corner is poor, an outswinger to the edge of the box and this time Wigan head the ball clear.

Espinoza puts it behind and Arsenal have another corner... look out.

Well, if you couldn't fathom why Wigan were 18th in the table, there's a clue. Atrocious defending and now they have a mountain to climb.

GOAL! Lukas Podolski heads Arsenal closer to the Champions League and Wigan towards relegation. Awful marking from a left-sided corner and the German is left unguarded to head home from a couple of yards.
