The Spurs players continue to harangue Clattenburg. Alex Ferguson looks sheepish and apologetic as he shakes hands with Harry Redknapp. Yet another controversial point in the recent history of this fixture.

The final whistle goes, and what had been a good game has been tarnished by a farcical second goal. However, overall United deserve their three points, and they stay within five points of leaders Chelsea.

Bale hurls in a long throw, but Evra simply heads it away. Bale has the ball again but it's Vidic's head this time that clears.

United have settled into closing out this match very well. Tottenham have been starved of the ball and denied chances in the last 10 minutes or so.

Promising attack here from United, but Scholes's touch is a little heavy and Spurs have another goal kick.

The news from the Spurs bench is that Van der Vaart felt a twinge in his hamstring, and his removal is simply a precautionary measure.

Evra surges down the left past Hutton, but goes too far and the ball runs out.

Tottenham substitution: Peter Crouch replaces Van der Vaart. This is a worry for Spurs ahead of their Champions League match against Inter on Tuesday. The Dutchman is walking off, at least.

United are looking to build an attack but Van der Vaart sits down on the turf, and they kick it out of play. No one was near the Dutchman when he went down. Perhaps a touch of cramp.

Pavlyuchenko has a look around, turns and fires an effort from distance that deflects off Vidic and flies just wide of the target! United deal with the corner well.

Assou-Ekotto finds van der Vaart int he box with his back to goal. The Dutchman turns and shoots, but Van der Sar was always the fasvourite to block that effort at the near post.

Nani bursts forward again and drags his shot off target. United are slowly but surely taking the high ground in this game.
