HEAD-TO-HEAD: Liverpool and Wigan Athletic have met 11 times in the league. Liverpool have won seven, Wigan one and there have been three draws. Wigan have never won in five Premier League visits to Anfield (4 defeats), including losing the last two. Their only ever point came in a 1-1 draw in January 2008. (Infostrada)

FACTS: Liverpool have won three in a row without conceding a goal, with the in-form Raul Meireles scoring four in five.

WIGAN TEAM NEWS: No major surprises for Wigan, with no changes from the side that beat Blackburn 4-3 in that classic last weekend. James McCarthy scored two goals in that game but was withdrawn from Ireland duty, a move heavily criticised by Trap and Shay Given. Unsurprisingly, he starts.

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS: Steven Gerrard is still out but Luis Suarez gets his first start in a Reds shirt, playing alongside Dirk Kuyt. Andy Carroll is still injured so David N'Gog and young Danny Pacheco provide striking options on the bench. Fresh from scoring against England Dan Agger is not even in the squad - perhaps he has been punished for speaking out of turn earlier this week? In case you don't remember, he used a rude word to describe the club under Woy.

Things are not so rosy for Wigan though, who are third bottom with 17th-placed West Brom having a game in hand and wily old Woy in charge. A win for them oes not guarantee moving out of the bottom three.

Liverpool are sixth but cannot move any higher with a win today as fifth-placed Spurs are six points clear with a game in hand. Still it's a decent turnaround for the Reds, who were in the drop zone earlier this season and given their form and Chelsea and Spurs' stutters they must feel that the top four is in sight.
