Lerma appeared to trod on the in-step of Kroos, but the Levante player avoids a booking. There have been a few of those from the home side in this first half so far.

IVI TAKES AIM! That was a long way out to shoot at goal from, but that tells you how desperate Levante are to create anything at all. Navas only had to watch it fly over his bar.

Oier looks really nervous in the Levante goal. If I were Zidane, I'd be telling my players to test him from distance as often as they can. He's alreayd flapped at one goal, he could do the same with another.

Kroos and Modric have been the stars of the show in this first half for Real Madrid. We've still to see the best from Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo, though. They could do damage.

This is much more like it from Real Madrid in these opening 34 minutes or so. They have been in full control of the match and are creating opportunities often enough. Well on top.

POOR HANDLING! Kroos takes aim from the best part of 25 yards out, but the effort is spilled by Oier. Ronaldo couldn't force home the rebound, but that was very nervy goalkeeping.

The passing from Real Madrid has been very good this evening. Levante are struggling to get near them. The ball has been zipping around the middle of the pitch. They're chasing.

Levante have shown at times that they have pace to burn on the rapid counter attack, but there's still a sense that they are toothless up front. They need a finisher in the box.

OFF HIS LINE! Benzema is threaded through, in behind the Levante defensive line. But the angle is tight for the Frenchman and Oier comes off his line to smother the effort.

That must have been painful for Carvajal. Ivi is shown yellow for trodding on the right back's foot.

Ronaldo believes that he should have been awarded a penalty. He struck his freekick straight at the wall, but replays show that it hit Lukic on the back rather than on the arm.

There's a fair bit of handbags between the two sets of players out there. Boateng in particular is winding up some of the Real Madrid team, including Marcelo and Ramos.

Bale and Benzema have started this game very well. It's amazing how they bring so many different dimensions to the Real Madrid attack when they are fit and on form.

Boateng milked that. Ramos enters the book, but there wasn't too much contact.

Replays of the opening goal from Ramos show that Oier really should have done much better with it. Benzema made things tough for him in front of the keeper, but even still.

Ronaldo really should have played that back into the box for one of his teammates. The Real Madrid number seven rounded Oier, but instead of crossing decided to scoop over from an impossible angle.
