Pepe tries a long ball through the middle to Ronaldo but it is easily cut out. The forward throws up his arms in frustration.
14'
Benzema whips in a cross from the left after Madrid string together a decent move but it is too close to goalkeeper Roberto and he grabs the ball comfortably.

Stat from Opta: "Prior to tonight, Manolo Jimenez’s men had scored just two goals in their last eight league games combined, while only Granada (12) had scored fewer all season (14). "

GOAL! Real Madrid 0-1 Real Zaragoza! Unbelievable scenes. Lafita taps the ball home from close range after Madrid are caught short from a quick free kick. Aranda broke free and squared for his team-mate. Horribly slack defending.
11'
Apono tries a frankly outrageous, searching pass out to the left wing but can't find a Zaragoza shirt as he overcooks it. At the other end, Roberto Gago cuts out another cross from Ronaldo to Benzema.
10'
Stats from Opta: "Zaragoza are on a run of 12 league games without a win, and are three games off equalling their poorest-ever top flight run (15 games in 42/43). Zaragoza are the joint-poorest away side in the league this season, taking just three points (all draws) from 30 available."

Oezil is playing down the right and Ronaldo stationed out on the left by the way, with Kaka tucked in behind Benzema.

What a chance! Ronaldo pulls out a couple of stepovers before delivering an outstanding cross to the back post where Karim Benzema is lurking. However instead of nodding it in he instead heads back across goal, only to see a lack of Madrid shirts.
6'
Luis Garcia is chopped down by Marcelo by the far touchline and wants a free kick. He doesn't get it.
4'
Madrid seem to have settled down but then Granero is guilty of another poor pass, requiring Xabi Alonso to rescue the situation.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a hat-trick at Zaragoza earlier in the season, wins his first free kick when being body-checked to the ground. It is Ronaldo who takes the set-piece in that unmistakeable style of his and his fierce shot flies wide of the far post.
2'
Pepe is then forced to produce a fine saving tackle as Zaragoza get another little sniff of action. Madrid won't be very impressed with this sloppy start.
1'
Granero with a loose pass in midfield and Zaragoza pick the ball up and test Iker Casillas with a shot from 20 yards.

Sergio has this to say on Twitter: "hey, i predict Real Madrid to win 6-1 or 6-0 against Zaragoza, with Ronaldo scoring a hatrick"

Some good stats from Opta: "Real Madrid have only ever lost four league games at home to Zaragoza (W47 D6). Jose Mourinho’s side have won 14 of their last 15 league games. However, aside from Barcelona, Real Zaragoza were the last side to win at the Bernabeu in the league (3-2 in April 2011). Real Madrid scored 67 goals in their first 19 league games, a record for any team in the Spanish top flight."

While Madrid were eliminated from the cup by their great rivals the manner of their performance did a lot to strengthen the position of coach Jose Mourinho, who had been under pressure following the first-leg defeat at home. A win against Zaragoza tonight will take them eight points clear of Barcelona, who play at Villarreal later.
18.50
Hamit Altintop makes his first start since joining Madrid and plays at right-back in place of the suspended Sergio Ramos, while Esteban Granero comes into the starting XI alongside Xabi Alonso after an appearance as a substitute in Wednesday's clasico - a 2-2 draw with Barca that saw Madrid eliminated from the Copa del Rey.
