FRANCE MUST IMPROVE
France signed off at home before leaving for the Euros with an entertaining but uninspiring draw with a disciplined and enterprising Canada.
In general play, the visitors gave as good as they got in the first half, confident on the ball and not unmenacing in attack. But it was France who came closest to opening the scoring, Maxime Crepeau foiling them with three fine saves.
The match remained an enjoyable contest into the second half, Liam Millar powering a curler against the bar and Olivier Giroud, on his final appearance for France, narrowly missing with a variety of lunges.
Neither side, though, could find a route to goal, which won’t worry Canada – they looked a decent, improving side – and won’t worry France too much, especially as Kylian Mbappe only played the final 20 minutes. But they remained unconvincing; Didier Deschamps has work to do.

THAT WAS ENJOYABLE
But not inspiring if you're French. There's no sense they're a team getting much better, but how good they are might be enough.

YOU'D THINK FRANCE NEED TO IMPROVE
If they're to win the Euros. But also, if you put Mbappe in from the start, you've a chance in any game.

MORE CHANGES FOR CANADA
On come Shaffelburg, Hiebert and Oluwaseyi; off come Davies, Kone and Buchanan.

TWO BALLS INTO THE CANADA BOX
Howls for a foul as the second of them, from Kounde, eludes everyone as Eustaquio tanlges himself up with Mbappe.

ALMOST EVERY TIME I WATCH FRANCE
I think "this team should be so much better than it is". They've won a World Cup, of course, but even that felt like it could've been done with greater style.

IT'S GONE A BIT BITTY
But here come Canada as I type, Kone finding David, and this time he does look to play in a teammate but from wider, Saliba sliding in brilliantly to avert a certain goal. What a defender he is.

FRANCE MAY WELL WIN THE EUROS
But there are a few sides they could lose to in a one-off game. I wonder if Spain would be a bad match-up for them.

IF YOU HADN'T WATCHED THIS
You'd see the score and assume the worst. But it's been a good, intense contest.

MBAPPE HAS BEEN PROWLING THE TOUCHLINE
I assume we'll see him soon.

AND HIS KICK FLIES BEYOND THE BACK POST
I'm not certain what he was trying there.

CANADA WIN A FREE-KICK DOWN THE RIGHT
Just near the corner of the box. Davies will swing in...

SMART PASS INTO DAVID
Eustaquoo with it. But rather than slide in Larin, he opts to go for goal, and Saliba slides in to block with his body. He makes the pass there, and it's not a difficult one, he gives his mate a much better chance ... but he's a striker, he's there to score, so.

OUCH
Davies slams it directly into the swede of the leaping Mendy. That can't have been much fun, but he seems fine.
