There is the final whistle and it will be Villa who progress to the next round with a solid defensive display after going down to 10 men. It was a poor performance from Rovers really, despite a bit of fight in the first half after they went that first goal down

There will be three minutes of added time but there's little point really as Rovers look poor and completely lacking ideas and if anything Villa are finishing the strong of the two sides despite having one less player

Oooh! Benjani really should have scored as he misses a comfortable opportunity from just 12 yards out, on the right side of the box

Jason Roberts is brought off in favour of Benjani as Rovers try one last ditch attempt to get back in this clash. Needing two goals in five minutes though is just too big an ask for the visitors

Downing's header finds Reo-Coker in the centre of the box but teh Villa midfielder has his on target shot by Hanley and Robinson clears as Rovers yet again escape

Downing continues to press forward as he forces yet another great save from Robinson, with the ball reaching him in the box just to the left of the penalty spot. Robinson really is the only thing preventing this from being four or five one to Villa

Downing forces Robinson as he drills his left-footed shot from the left of the penalty and despite their one-man disavantage, Villa still look the more likely to score

Albrighton is the latest replacement for Villa as they bring off Delfouneso to further try and defend their lead

Hoilett skies a right-footed shot from right in front of goal, just shy of 20 yards out. If he had made better contact with that, the Rovers would in all likelihood have been right back in this clash but he missed the target and that pretty much sums up Rovers day

Rovers are also getting involved in the substitutions now as they bring on Vincenzo Grella in place of Keith Andrews

Villa are locking it down now as Pires is brought off in favour of defender James Collins as the hosts attempt to defend their lead for the final 20 minutes

Despite Baker's red card being clearly justified, Hoilett's every touch is being booed by Villa fans, who either didn't see or don't care about the challenge!

Baker lunges in for a shocking tackle on Hoilett and is immediately shown a straight red card. Hoilett is left on the floor having taken a boot to the lower abdomen/groin region and there's little argument as Baker trudges off the pitch

Keith Andrews misses an absolute sitter as he receives the ball right on to his head and yet somehow manages to miss past the right post from only six yards out

Downing tries to find Delfouneso with a cross, but the ball strikes his target and goes on of play as another move breaks down for the hosts

Bannan whips his corner in from the right and finds Clark, scorer of the afternoon's first goal, but his first time shot drills past the right post and Rovers narrowly escape once more

Walker drills a low shot towards the goal from about 25 yards out but his shot is blocked by Grant Hanley and goes behind for a corner

Things haven't really got going yet in this second half as Villa are all over Blackburn but can't quite keep a hold of the ball beyond the midfield

Villa are looking to kill this match off early in the second half as Baker narrowly misses a header past the right post off Pires's swinging corner from the left

Grant blocks a shot from Pires and that should be good for his confidence after that shocking header in teh first half that handed the Frenchman his goal
