YILDIZ EFFORT
Yildiz darts into the box and gets a shot away, but it's from a tight angle and Mamardashvili is there to parry and gather at the second time.

HERE COME TURKEY AGAIN
Guler looks dangerous again as he skips into the box and lofts in another inviting cross, but Yildiz can't climb high enough to get there.

NOW GEORGIA GO CLOSE!
What a frantic start to this game! The ball goes up the other end and a shot takes a big deflection, forcing Gunok to change direction and palm it out for a corner. Good reflexes from the experienced keeper.
First real threat from the Georgians there, and a big warning to Turkey.

TURKEY HIT THE POST!
So close! They can't beleive they aren't in front here. Georgia can't clear their lines and the ball is worked back to Ayhan at the edge of the box.
The midfielder hits a perfect daisy-cutter towards the bottom corner, but it cannons off the inside of the post and out to safety.

TURKEY THREATEN ONCE MORE
Another dangerous Turkey corner! This one's taken by Guler and met by Bardakci, but the big defender heads just wide.

TURKEY PRESSING
Georgia are clinging on a bit here. Turkey again get to the edge of the box pretty quickly, and Calhanoglu lines up a piledriver, but his shot is blocked by the first defender.

AYHAN GOES CLOSE!
Turkey win a corner and Calhanoglu swings it in. Ayhan rises highest and flicks a header goalwards, but it goes over the top. Montella thought that was heading in, he was jumping in excitement down in the technical area.

KVARA'S DANCING FEET
Georgia get forward for the first time and Kvaratskhelia shows what he can do witha lovely nutmeg, but it doesn't lead to much.

GULER'S FIRST FLASH

TURKEY START STRONGLY
Turkey try and play in Yilmaz but the ball is a bit too long for the striker. As soon as Georgia get on the ball, they are met with a deafening chorus of whistles and boos, and Turkey are soon back in possession.

Some hair-raising anthems there. A proud moment for all the Georgian fans, and such a huge noise from the Turkish support.
Kick-off mere moments away...

FIVE MINUTES TO GO!
We've just had the traditional flag-unveiling ceremony and it's almost time. The crowd is SO UP for this one.

GULER SHOWING HUGE POTENTIAL
Guler will be on many fans’ radar as a potential breakthrough star at this tournament.
The 19-year-old joined Real Madrid last summer and after struggling to get game time, he burst into the spotlight with five goals in five La Liga games at the tail end of the campaign.
“We are very happy that he’s here. He has a gift. He scores goals when he doesn’t deserve it. I think it’s because the ball is in love with Arda,” said Real boss Carlo Ancelotti.

ALL EYES ON KVARA
One thing’s for sure – if Georgia are going to spring a surprise at this tournament, Kvaratskhelia will be at the heart of their efforts.
The winger is already his country's third-highest scorer by the age of 23, and fired Napoli to their first Serie A title for 33 years last season while winning the league’s MVP award.
However, 2023/24 was a trickier year for the Georgian star as Napoli slumped to 10th.
‘Kvaradona’ still ended the campaign with a commendable 11 goals and eight assists, but he will operate in a different role for Georgia, where he has a more central free role as a No. 10 rather than on the left wing.

GEORGIANS IN HIGH SPIRITS
The Georgian fans have been making a racket since I first arrived in Dortmund about six hours ago, flooding the streets with red and white as excitement builds towards their debut game.
The players have left the pitch after their warm-ups, and kick-off is fast approaching. There is an amazing atmosphere in here already.

SAGNOL FLYING GEORGIA’S FLAG
Former France and Bayern Munich defender Sagnol took over in the wake of Georgia’s heartbreaking playoff final defeat to North Macedonia before Euro 2020.
He picked up the pieces and built the side in his image bit by bit, and by this point he has quietened any doubters after leading the small country from the Caucasus to their first tournament.
The 47-year-old, a former assistant and caretaker manager at Bayern, has a 50% win rate from his 34 games in charge, and Georgia arrived in Germany with just one defeat in their last seven games.

MONTELLA’S MOMENT
Former Italy and Roma striker Montella, nicknamed the ‘Little Aeroplane’ during his playing days for his flying celebration, has been in charge of Turkey since last September.
In that time, he has led the country to impressive wins over Germany and Croatia, but his side’s struggles against high-pressing sides have been noted, particularly when they were thrashed 6-1 by Austria in March.
That result was part of a poor run of form that Turkey suffered leading up to this tournament – they come into tonight’s game on a five-game winless run.

TURKEY’S ‘HOME’ SUPPORT
We have seen thousands of Turkish fans flooding towards the stadium this afternoon, and that’s no coincidence.
There are more than a million Turks living in Germany, and an estimated 23,000 in Dortmund alone, so Germany is like a second host nation for Vincenzo Montella’s team.
You could tell earlier on that they vastly outnumber the Georgian fans - just listen to the difference in the two teams' reception when they came out for their warm-ups....

GEORGIA'S HISTORIC XI
The name that jumps off the team sheet, of course, is Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the pin-up face of this history-making side and the man most capable of producing a moment of game-changing magic.
However, their 5-3-2 setup features several talented players playing in big leagues – keep an eye out particularly for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Ajax striker Georges Mikautadze, who banged in 13 goals on loan at Metz in Ligue 1 this season.
