FRANCE HELD BY POLAND IN DORMUND
France were forced to settle for second place in Euro 2024 Group D despite Kylian Mbappe scoring his first goal at a European Championship in a 1-1 draw with Poland in Dortmund.
The two-time winners looked set to claim progress as group winners when Real Madrid-bound Mbappe, playing in a mask to protect his broken nose, converted a penalty on 56 minutes after Jakub Kiwior had fouled Ousmane Dembele.
But Poland skipper Robert Lewandowski netted the equaliser with his own spot kick on 79 minutes after VAR had deemed Dayot Upamecano guilty of a clumsy late challenge on substitute Karol Swiderski.
France keeper Mike Maignan saved the first effort, but he was deemed to have come off his line too soon and Barcelona striker Lewandowski rolled the second penalty in off the post to earn his eliminated side a deserved first point of the tournament.
Austria won the group courtesy of their 3-2 victory over the Netherlands in Berlin with the Dutch progressing in third place. Read more here:

AND FRANCE ARE HELD IN DORTMUND!
Mbappe goes to ground under pressure. Huge appeals for a penalty, but referee says no as Dawidowicz collides with him. That looked a penalty, but nothing doing. And the match ends 1-1. France continue their struggles at the Euros.

POLAND BACK IN THE TRENCHES
Swiderski takes one for the team in hauling back Hernandez. A booking all day long. Griezmann's free-kick comes to nothing seconds later to sum up a frustrating day for France.

HEADING FOR FIVE ADDED MINUTES
France again win another corner, but Poland are well set in their own area and clear the ball with ease. Polish fans in full voice in Dortmund as Mbappe then sees a deflected shot easily held by Skorupski.

FRANCE TOTTING UP THE CORNERS
But not the goals despite some frantic attacking moves late on. Has been unconvincing with Poland holding firm. Skorupski off his line to nudge the ball away after Giroud had headed on for Griezmann.

GIROUD ALMOST IN FOR THE WINNER
Manages to get a shot away at the Poland goal, but that is a fine piece of last-ditch defending by Jan Bednarek in throwing himself at the ball. Corner from Griezmann comes to nothing.

POLAND FANS SENSE SHOCK VICTORY
They are really making life uncomfortable for the two-time winners as Lewandowski drags a shot wide before he almost nods in with Upamecano doing just enough to get that cross away.

ANOTHER CHANGE IS MADE BY FRANCE
Deschamps decides to make another alteration with Youssouf Fofana replacing Aurelien Tchouameni. France really unconvincing in this match, and the group it must be said.

ALL HAPPENING AT THE EUROS!
Austria are suddenly 3-2 clear of Netherlands in Berlin and are heading through as Group D winners. France would finish second at the moment with the Dutch third. Difficult group to call.

GOAL! FRANCE 1-1 POLAND (LEWANDOWSKI)
Mike Maignan dives to his right to save the first Lewandoswi effort, but a retake is ordered by the referee for coming off his line. And the Poland striker tucks it away to the same side. In off the post and Poland are level at 1-1. Drama in Dortmund.

POLAND HAVE A PENALTY!
And there we have it. VAR gets involved as Upamecano is deemed to be late on Karol Swiderski. Was a clumsy challenge from behind really. And the referee agrees with VAR. Points to the spot.

FRANCE HAVE LOST THEIR MOMENTUM
Has not been an overly convincing performance from Les Bleus today as they try to finish off a Poland side who continue to battle hard in Dortmund.

LEWANDOWSKI SHOWS HIS CLASS
France seemed to switch off for a vital few seconds as Lewandowski wallops a shot just wide of goal from 22 yards with Mike Maignan scrambling across his line. Can't go to sleep with the Poland captain lurking.

HERNANDEZ WITH PACE AND INTENT OUT WIDE
Too much for Poland to cope with in this second half. Ball flies across the face of goal, but no takers on hand with Giroud forced to watch the cross slide well away from standing six yards or so out.

DEMBELE ON THE CHARGE FOR FRANCE
He leaves Kiwior chasing dust before clipping a shot across goal that flies wide of the Poland net. Not sure if that was a shot or cross, but comes to nothing after a blistering surge from the halfway line.

FRANCE FINDING REAL WIDTH
Pace and potency in the French attack as Barcola scampers towards goal before his effort is well repelled by Skorupski. Poland hanging on a bit.
