Samp clear the corner and Maccarone goes down on the halfway line as he turned Sokratis. The referee gives Milan the free-kick and books Maccarone for diving!

A slick Milan counter here as Pato slips a reverse pass into the path of Robinho... Accardi gets in a timely tackle to block the shot and concede a corner.

Macheda evades Van Bommel with a good turn, but his pinged crossfield pass is wayward and gives Milan a throw in the Samp half.

Maccarone is making his Samp debut after just six months at Palermo, where he scored just two league goals in 18 appearances - although most of them were off the bench.

The midfield duel between Van Bommel and Palombo will be interesting. The Samp captain welcomes the Dutchman to Italy with a cynical trip and shove in the back.
