Real Madrid and Manchester City traded stunners in a thrilling UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg which ended 3-3.

City had made the perfect start, with Bernardo Silva scoring inside two minutes when he caught out the hosts' goalkeeper Andriy Lunin by shooting from a long-range free kick when a cross was anticipated.

Yet Madrid responded with two goals in two minutes - first a deflected Eduardo Camavinga shot and then a brilliant second as Vinicius Junior teed up Rodrygo down their left - to claim a half-time lead.

Pep Guardiola's tweaks gave City more control in the second half and two brilliants strikes from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol gave them a 3-2 advantage.

However, Madrid are a tough beast to kill and Federico Valverde's vicious volley created a late leveller out of nothing and ensured the teams are level heading into next week's second leg in Manchester.

Michael Owen: "The standard of finishing was exquisite. Six goals and the game beautifully poised for the Etihad. I think City will be the happier of the two teams, they will remember fondly what happened 12 months ago when the really took this Real Madrid team to school and they battered them at the Ethad.

Jolean Lescott: "We expected goals, quality. We've seen all that. Chaos at times as well, which is probably what you don't associate with City games. Real Madrid obviously going behind so early on, and then took control of the game. Just excitement throughout."

And breathe. What a game, featuring some brilliant goals, and at the end it's still level. City beat Real Madrid 4-0 at home last season so will be the happier of the two teams, certainly, but Madrid are far from finished off.
