Even if Twente haven't picked up a win yet, they've at least been giving it a go. They have committed more fouls than any other team in this year's competition, but have only won 24% of aerial duels in their matches. I'm not sure exactly what that statistic tells us about what to expect in this one, but Per Mertesacker will probably be licking his lips.

In fact, away from home in the Champion's League in general the German team aren't the best. They have won only once in 15 on the road in Europe's premier club competition, surely motivation for Twente?

Bremen's record against Dutch teams is equally poor, having only won 3 of 12 games. Away from home it gets worse for Schaaf's men, having lost five and drawn one of six matches in Holland.

The omens do not look good for the home team, having achieved only two victories in 13 matches against German opposition. It's not all bad news though, as those two wins came in their last two home matches against German teams.

These two teams did meet in last season's Europa League at the round of 32 stage. Twente edged the first leg in Holland 1-0, but were handed a 4-1 beating in Germany, ensuring the Die Werderaner progressed.

Bremen achieved exactly the same result as the Dutch team in their first match, fighting back from two-nil down to claim a draw at home to Spurs. They were comprehensively outclassed by Inter last time out, crashing to a 4-0 defeat. They will need to up their performance considerably if their to get anything out of this one.

Twente made a solid start to the group, securing a credible 2-2 draw with reigning champions Inter. Their luck abandoned them in their second match, as they were somewhat unfortunate to be thumped 4-1 by Tottenham at White Hart Lane. With this being their second home match of the campaign, it's crucial they pick up a win tonight.

Werder Bremen have Champion's League old-timer Claudio Pizarro up front, alongside Portugal's Hugo Almeida. German midfielder Aaron Hunt plays behind the front two, with Wesley and Philipp Bargfrede also in midfield. Covering the defence is the veteran Torsten Frings, with Mertesacker and Sebastian Prodl in centre defence.

Team news and the home side line up with the giant Austrian striker Marc Janko playing alone up front, supported by the lively pair of Nacer Chadli and Bryan Ruiz on either flank. Veteran midfielder Denny Landzaat starts after his match-winning performance at the weekend, with Brazilian Douglas and Peter Wisgerhof paired in the heart of defence.
