Venue: The London Palladium
Edition: 70th anniversary gala, first held outside Paris
Harry Kane has moved back to the front of the Ballon d’Or betting after a summer in which the market briefly swung behind Lamine Yamal.
The 70th edition of football’s most prestigious individual honour lands at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, with the ceremony marking the first time the award has left Paris since its launch in 1956.
Bayern Munich’s England captain is the shortest price in the outright market, with Barcelona teenager Yamal the only other player trading at single-figure odds.
Below we break down the full market, the 30-man shortlist and the cases for and against the leading contenders, plus the betting picture on the night’s other awards.

William Hill cut Kane from 4/5 to 8/11 in late September, before shortening him further to 8/15 by the middle of October.
Yamal drifted the other way with the same bookmaker, out from 6/5 to 6/4 in late September and settling at 7/4 by October 12.
Sky Bet and Paddy Power told a similar story in late September, both trimming Kane from evens to 8/13 while easing Yamal out from 11/10 to 2/1.
Rodri’s price has drifted out with 10bet too, from 20/1 in late September to 40/1 by the middle of October as voters lean back towards the two front-runners.
The 30-man shortlist
France Football and UEFA named 30 candidates for the men’s award on September 8, with the panel drawing on both the 2025/26 club season and the 2026 World Cup.
Dembele heads into the ceremony as the reigning champion after his stellar season with Paris Saint-Germain last year.
Paris Saint-Germain supply the most nominees of any club, with nine players on the list reflecting their run through 2025/26 as they retained the Champions League and Ligue 1 titles, as well as winning the Trophee des Champions, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The same ceremony also hands out separate awards for the best under-21 player, the best goalkeeper, the best coach and the best club, details of which are covered further down the page.
Harry Kane leads the betting
Kane finished the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with 36 goals, winning the Torjagerkanone as the division’s top scorer for the third year running.
That tally also brought him a second European Golden Shoe, finishing nine goals clear of Erling Haaland in the continental race.
He helped Bayern win the Bundesliga title, the DFB Pokal and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, a three-trophy haul to go with 61 goals in all competitions.
At the World Cup, Kane scored six goals as England reached the semi-final before beating France 6-4 in an extraordinary third-place play-off to claim bronze.
The case against him is the one that follows every Ballon d’Or favourite outside a World Cup final: Kane’s Bayern side lost in the Champions League semi-final to Paris Saint-Germain on away goals after a 6-5 aggregate thriller, and England went out of the World Cup before the final itself.
Lamine Yamal and the chasing pack
Lamine Yamal
Yamal is the only other player shorter than double figures in the betting, and his case starts with the World Cup final in New York.
He played every minute of Spain’s run to the trophy, including the full 120 minutes of the 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina, with Ferran Torres scoring the only goal.
Domestically, he helped Barcelona to the La Liga title and the Supercopa de Espana, taking his season tally to 24 goals and 17 assists in all competitions.
Yamal turned 19 in July, and winning at that age would make him comfortably the youngest player ever to lift the Ballon d’Or, taking the record from Brazil’s Ronaldo Nazario.
His teammate Rodri was named the World Cup’s best player and picked up the Golden Ball, which complicates rather than strengthens Yamal’s case among voters who weight individual tournament form heavily.
Yamal was also carrying a knock through parts of the tournament, telling Spanish media he was not fully satisfied with his own World Cup despite lifting the trophy.
Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe arrives with the most eye-catching individual number of any nominee after finishing the World Cup as the competition’s all-time leading scorer.
His ten goals in New York took his career World Cup tally to 22 across three tournaments, one clear of the record Messi set across six, and won him the Golden Boot for a second time.
France’s exit at the semi-final stage, before that third-place defeat to England, is the obvious dent in his claim.
Lionel Messi
Messi’s case is built on sentiment as much as statistics, with eight more World Cup goals added to his tally and a run to within 90 minutes of retaining the trophy that once so famously eluded him.
A ninth Ballon d’Or at 39 would extend his own record, though few in the betting market see it as a realistic outcome this year.
Rodri
Rodri’s Golden Ball at the World Cup gives him a genuine outside shout, backed by a season in which he helped Manchester City compete domestically while anchoring Spain’s World Cup-winning midfield.
He already holds a Ballon d’Or from 2024, since when he has suffered serious injury issues, but the summer tournament in North America saw him back to near that Ballon d’Or-winning peak.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Kvaratskhelia’s form in helping PSG to retain the Champions League is the main reason behind his inclusion as an each-way outside option, although Georgia’s absence from the World Cup harms his case.
Other Ballon d’Or bets
The main ceremony also hands out the Kopa Trophy for the best player aged 21 or under, the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper and the Ballon d’Or Feminin for the best women’s player.
What the odds actually mean
Fractional odds convert into an implied probability, which is the bookmaker’s own estimate of how likely a result is rather than a prediction of what will happen.
The formula is straightforward: divide the second number by the sum of both numbers, then multiply by 100.
Kane’s leading price of 8/15 works out at 15 divided by 23, for an implied probability of about 65 percent.
Those percentages are built from each player’s best available price across the two bookmakers and add up to well over 100 percent, which is normal and reflects the bookmakers’ built-in margin rather than a market error.
The gap between Kane and Yamal at the top is far tighter in probability terms than the fractional odds alone suggest, while everyone outside the top two is still a long way from genuine contention.
Betting tips for the Ballon d’Or
No price in this market, including the favourite’s, guarantees the outcome on the night.
- 1.Compare prices across bookmakers before betting, since the gap between the best and worst price on the same player can be significant, as the William Hill and 10bet columns above show for Yamal and Mbappe.
- 2.Follow the key dates: the shortlist was announced on September 8 and the ceremony takes place on October 26 at the London Palladium, with odds typically moving hardest around nominee news and late-season form.
- 3.Understand how the vote works before reading too much into any single storyline: 100 journalists, one from each of the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations, each rank their top ten from the 30-man shortlist, with points awarded from 15 for first down to 1 for tenth, and the highest total wins.
- 4.Don’t bet on personal affinity with a player, since the market already prices in the statistical and narrative factors that typically decide the actual vote.
Odds can and do change between now and the ceremony, so treat any price on this page as a snapshot rather than a fixed outcome.
